School Age Swim Lessons

Swimming is a lifestyle sport.  That means that once you learn to swim, you will be able to enjoy swimming for a long time to come.  Learning to swim will help to keep you safe on area lakes and rivers.  It will keep you active, making your heart happy.  Plus, it will open doors to participate in other recreational water activities, like boating, or to join a competitive team, like the Phillips WAVE.  All you need to do is to sign up for your first class!

 

Features of these classes:

  • 02 level courses are designated for ages 6-9
  • 03 level courses are designated for ages 10-12
  • parents and guardians can watch from designated areas
  • classes are 45 minutes each
  • cost is $27 per student unless otherwise stated.  Discounts are available for Season or Annual Pass Holders (Scholarships for lessons are available by contacting the Aquatic Director)
  • Swim Lesson University curriculum is followed

Our Current Class Program and Schedule

Level 102/103

 

Course Description:  This is the place to start if you have not yet had formal instruction.  Learn to surface swim on your front and back.

 

Skills Covered:  First-time submerssion, Breath holding, Breath control, Front & back kicking, Paddle stroke, Underwater swim with "Pop-up" breath

 

Times: Tuesdays, 5:30 - 6:15

 

Session 1: Oct. 17 - Nov. 28

Level 202/203

 

Course Description:  Learn to swim Freestyle (with side breathing) and the Backstroke.

 

Prerequisite:  Comfortably swim 15 feet without the aid of a floatation device, face in the water and breathing as needed.

 

Skills Covered:  Kicking with kickboard, Back kicking, Streamline kicking, Backstroke, Freestyle.

  

 

Times: Tuesdays, 5:30 - 6:15

Level 302/303

 

Course Description:  Advanced swim strokes.  In this level learn the Breaststroke and Butterfly.  Note: Breaststroke is an important skill for Lifeguarding courses.

 

Prerequisite:  Swim 25 feet of Front Crawl (with side breathing).

 

Skills Covered:  Refine the Freestyle and Backstroke, Whip kick, Breaststroke arm pattern, Breaststroke timing, Butterfly kick, Butterfly arms, Butterfly timing.

  

Times: Tuesdays 6:15 - 7:00 p.m.

 

Session 3: Feb 20 - March 28

 

Level 402/403

 

Course Description:  Lifesaving strokes.  In this level learn the Sidestroke and Elementary Backstroke.  Both are good skills for water safety.

 

Prerequisite:  Swim 25 feet of Front Crawl (with side breathing).

 

Skills Covered:  Scissors kick, Sidestroke arms, kick and timing, Backstroke kick, arms and timing, Treading kicks, Sculling arms for treading, Treading.

  

Times: Tuesdays 6:15 - 7:00 p.m.

 

Session 4: Apr. 10 - May 17

 

ASP Sessions

 

Course Description: Ride the school bus to the pool after school. Enjoy a healthy snack, a swim lesson (until 4:30), and for those who need a ride, structured free time until 5:30 p.m. Students will be split into smaller groups by ability.

 

Times: Mondays, 3:45 - 5:00 p.m.

 

Session 1: Oct. 9 - Nov. 13

Session 2: Jan. 8 - Feb. 12

Session 3: Feb. 19 - March 26

 

Phillips Riplets

 

Course Decription: New this year! This intense focus on level 300 skills will also introduce you to the Phillips Wave Swim Team. Experience fun drills focused on the Breaststroke and Butterfly. No competition involved.

 

Prerequitite: Passed at least Level 200.

 

Times: Mon- Wed (Fridays optional), 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.  

 

Session: Nov. 27 - Dec 18

 

Cost: $30 with (seasonal or annual) pool pass or $54 without
